    • Register for the 18th Annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival, scheduled May 6-9, 2010. Themed Partners around the Pacific:  Common Waters, Uncommon Birds.  The Festival presents keynote speaker Peter Harrison speaking on the Albatross.  Get your registration form at the Homer Chamber, Islands and Ocean Visitor Center or online at www.homeralaska.org
    • Winter King Results:  Winning Fish at 38.5 pounds was caught by Scott Ross from Anchorage for a prize of $18,165.  All sidebets were won by the Memory Maker with a 29.4 pound totaling $45,986.25 in prize money.

o        FIRST FRIDAY:  Homer High Art Show Homer High Art students will display their artwork during the month of April.  Works include drawings Paintings & Mixed media.

  • Bunnell Street Arts Council 
    • Artist-in-residence:  Jim Woodring, Cartoonist, the Arthur of Jim – Funded by the Rasmuson Roundation & United States Artists, Jim wil transorm the gallery space into a working studio this month and exhibit his work on the walls.  – an illustrated “autojournal” that includes drawings, comics and stories based on his childhood experiences and is perhaps best known s the creator of Frank, a wordless cartoon series.  All events will take place at Bunnell Street Arts Center. 235-2662

    • Juliblee! 2010:  Celebrating Young Artists  This exhibit features the work of local students’ talent in the arts.  April 2 through May 9
    • The Pratt is seeking Summer Youth Interns!    The goal of this internship program is to expose local youth to the many facets of natural history, cultural heritages and interpretive work through community based programming.  Interns receive training in public interpretation and assistance in pursuing their interests in the sciences, art and history.  Applicants must be at least 15 years of gae and not have reached age 19.  June 7 – August 13, 2020.  Deadline for application April 16, 2010.  FMI, Ryjil Chirstianson, Director of Education at the Pratt Museum, 235-8636, education@prattmsueum.org

            Hot & Cold:  The archaeology of Japanese WWII military bases in Micronesia and Kiska.  Noon.  Based on Professor Dick Spennemann’s research and site visits in the South and North Pacific.  Dick Spennemann is a professor in Historic Preservation and Cultural Heritage Studies with the Institute for Land, Water and Society, Charles Stuart University at Albury (Australia).  Dick is also a photographic artist whose series, Impressions of the Kiska Battlefield can be seen in the collaborative exhibit “Kiska and Adak:  War in the Aleutians” opening at the Anchorage Museum on April 22 though December 2010.

Fr30     Alaska Society of Radiologic Technologist is having a conference from April 30 – May 1.  We are expecting 75 – 80 people in town.  Meetings are to be held at Land’s End.  We will open our doors, increase our staff and do what it takes to welcome our guests to Homer!

Pratt Museum

Volunteer Orientation  Noon & 3.  The volunteer orientation is an opportunity for past, present and future volunteers to meet the staff at the Museum and have a brief tour of the museum.  This is a community based event.  All are welcome!  Now is a time to share your local knowledge with the many tourist coming to Homer this summer.  Volunteer time is a valuable donation to your community museum.
