ALL MONTH

§         Pratt Museum

§         Fish Feedings every Tuesday & Friday at 4 pm in the Marine Room.  Help feed the intertidal creatures in the aquaria.  Fish feeding is fun, free and all are welcome!

§         Object at Hand  Monday, Wednesday & Fridays June 18 – July 20, from 2-3 pm.  This summer program is hosted by Pratt Interns who select and research an item in the Museum’s Permanent collections.  Regular admission applies.  Free to museum members. 

§         Marvelous Mondays storytelling & Hands on Activities 11 am –Noon

§         Forest Ecology Walks June 17 – August 5 on Thursday Evenings at 6 pm.  Meet at Pratt Museum trailhead.  Call 235-8635.

§         Historic Harbor Tours May 28 – August 28. Every Friday and Saturday 3 pm.  Meet at the Homer Spit at the Wheelhouse near the Salty Dawg $5.  Join a Museum docent to walk the historic docks of the Homer Harbor while hearing stories of local history, a memorable array of local characters and boats of all types. 

§         Live Remote Video watching Alaska Brown Bears at Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park 1-6 beginning in July.  Rangers operate the camera and provide info on the bears.

§         Facing the Elements 2010 Beginning June 18 on the Pratt Forest T rail.  The Pratt Museum, seeks work for its outdoor art exhibit, Facing the Elements, located along the forest trail behind the Museum.  This exhibition is completely open to the elements and offers artists the natural surroundings as a unique backdrop. 

§         Sailing For Salmon:  An exhibit celebrating 125 years of Commercial Fishing in Bristol Bay.  May 21 – August 1 in the Pratt Museum Special Gallery.  An exhibit celebrating 125 years of commercial fishing in Bristol Bay 1884 – 2009.  Stop by the Museum this summer and watch Dave Seaman of the Wooden Boat Society as he restores a Bristol Bay Double Ender

§               Alaska Department of Fish & Game  has a fishing rod loaner program year round.  People can borrow fishing rods for up to a week.  Loaner rods are available at the front desk at Kachemak Bay Research Reserve at Islands & Oceans and at the Homer Fish & Fame office at 3298 Douglas Place.  To borrow a rod, a person will need to show a current fishing license and provide us with their contact information.  Call 235-8191

§         Join a CACS Naturalist on a guided natural history tour to explore tide pools, hike through a transitional temperate rain forest and learn more about the amazing natural history of Kachemak Bay

§         Peterson Bay Field Station Combo Tour 8-6 Daily, The above tour followed by a kayak excursion with St Augustine Tours.  Excursion continue daily Memorial Day until Labor Day.

§         Creatures of the Dock Tours 1PM and 4PM Daily $5 Tours continue daily Memorial Day until Labor Day. Join CACS staff on an unforgettable tour of the Homer Harbor and experience the amazing intertidal critters that can be found on our docks.  Check in at the CACS Yurt at Ramp 2.  Tour lasts 1 hour.

§         Wynn Nature Center Guided / Unguided Hike Join CACS Naturalists on a 1-2 hour guided hike through wildflower meadows, a transitional boreal forest and bogs of the Wynn Nature Center.  Hear songbirds, see signs of wildllife and enjoy the peacefulness of the Wynn Nature Center trails.  Guided hikes are offered daily at 10:00am and 2:00pm from June 12 - September 1. Unguided 10:00 AM -6:00 PM Daily.  Cost: $7 adults, $6 Over 60, $5 Under 18, $20 Family. Available June 12-September 1.

§         Fantastic Fridays at the Wynn Nature Center  6-8 pm.  Visit the Wynn Nature Center “after hours” for a special presentation or walk.  Weekly topics change but every last Friday of the Month is a Garden to Gourmet potluck where you can share a dish locally harvested from the wild or your garden.  Bring your family to WNC on Skyline Drive.  Free

§         Learn Your Local Plants:  This Walk is a special guided hike provided weekly on Thursdays, June 12 through September 1, 6:30-7:30 p.m. FREE.  Learn to identify the plants in your backyard

§         Knee-High Naturalist Program Ages 2-4.  A preschool story hour that includes a hike and craft activity.  Fridays 10:30-11:30 AM June 18 – August.  Parents welcome.  $2 donation requested.

§         Bio-kids Ages 5-8.  Weekly series of programs exploring different themes in nature.  Tuesdays, 1-3.  The first five classes hav an arts 7 Nature focus and the second five classes investigate nature (trees, wildlife, wildflowers, birds, and rocks).  Drop-ins are welcome $6/class or 5 classes for $25

§         Wilderness Survival  Ages 8-11.  Weekly program that teaches youth how to survive in the wilderness. Includes building shelters, orienteering, fire building, medicinal & edible plants &^ more.  Thursdays 1-3, 10 classes June17 – August 19.  Drop-ins are welcome $6/class or 5 classes for $25

§         Day Camp  Ages 5-9 years old.  Daily Program Monday – Friday, 10:00-1:00.  WSI:  Wildlife Science Investigations July 19 - 30

§         Family Free Day Sundays – All Day Beginning June 20  Hike the trials, have a picnic, go bird watching, look for wildlife, smell the wildflowers!  Must have a minimum of one adult and one child, guided hikes not included unless you are a CACS member.

Concert on the Lawn   - An annual rite of summer. A benefit, wrapped in a social event, connecting a vibrant community with a vital community resource –- 907-235-7721, www.kbbi.org  Musicians... The application window is now open through Monday April 5th. Interested parties can email their interest, a brief bio and audio samples that are representative of their planned performance (or links to audio on-line) to music@concertonthelawn.org.  2010 Concert dates are Saturday, July 31st and Sunday, August 1st.  People make Concert on the Lawn more than an outdoor music festival. It’s an annual rite of summer. Concert on the Lawn is a benefit, wrapped in a social event, connecting a vibrant community with one of our most vital community resources – Public Radio KBBI AM 890. This weekend of fun is made possible by our musicians, volunteers, supportive organizations, and you!
